Maureen

Maureen
Williams has been in public relations
and marketing for over 20 years.
In 1990, while she was director
of public relations at Children’s
Hospital of Orange County (CHOC)
in Southern California, she co-founded
the Drowning Prevention Network
of Orange County. She is currently
treasurer of the California Drowning
Prevention Network and a member
of the Drowning Prevention Coalition
of Central Arizona.
Maureen
has chaired or co-chaired four
National Drowning Prevention Symposiums.
She is a member of two ASTM International
committees: F-14, fencing and
F-15, consumer products. She chairs
a task group working on a new
standard for self-closing, self-locking
gates, and is a member of the
canvass team for the ANSI/NSPI
(APSP) swimming pool barrier standards.
In
2004, Maureen founded the National
Drowning Prevention Alliance
(NDPA), and she is currently
the group’s
president. The NDPA was formed
to maximize efforts to prevent
drowning through the development
and implementation of strategies
to facilitate and improve education,
public awareness, effective
barrier codes, and greater utilization
of layers of protection. The
NDPA is comprised of individuals,
organizations, policymakers
and corporations who have the
common goal of saving lives.
In
her position as public relations
manager for D&D
Technologies, an Australian company
that makes the Magna-Latch magnetic
pool gate latch, she is helping
the company achieve its goal of
saving toddlers’ lives
through extensive drowning prevention
advocacy. She has written several
articles on the subject that have
been published in national publications.
Maureen
obtained her bachelor’s
degree in communications from
Cal State University, Fullerton.
