Maureen Williams, APR Public Relations Manager D&D Technologies

Maureen Williams has been in public relations and marketing for over 20 years. In 1990, while she was director of public relations at Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) in Southern California, she co-founded the Drowning Prevention Network of Orange County. She is currently treasurer of the California Drowning Prevention Network and a member of the Drowning Prevention Coalition of Central Arizona.

Maureen has chaired or co-chaired four National Drowning Prevention Symposiums. She is a member of two ASTM International committees: F-14, fencing and F-15, consumer products. She chairs a task group working on a new standard for self-closing, self-locking gates, and is a member of the canvass team for the ANSI/NSPI (APSP) swimming pool barrier standards.

In 2004, Maureen founded the National Drowning Prevention Alliance (NDPA), and she is currently the group’s president. The NDPA was formed to maximize efforts to prevent drowning through the development and implementation of strategies to facilitate and improve education, public awareness, effective barrier codes, and greater utilization of layers of protection. The NDPA is comprised of individuals, organizations, policymakers and corporations who have the common goal of saving lives.

In her position as public relations manager for D&D Technologies, an Australian company that makes the Magna-Latch magnetic pool gate latch, she is helping the company achieve its goal of saving toddlers’ lives through extensive drowning prevention advocacy. She has written several articles on the subject that have been published in national publications.

Maureen obtained her bachelor’s degree in communications from Cal State University, Fullerton.
